Torontonian Guillaume Viau says fashion is “an outlet that allows me to express my individuality.” The self-described entrepreneur launched the Toronto-based clothing line FRESH TRAIN CO. with his brother in July, which calls itself “a street-chic brand for individuals who aspire to inspire those within his/her community.” He spoke with Daily Spots about his biggest inspirations, Toronto versus NYC fashion, and his favorite item in his closet.
DS: Who/What influences your day-to-day style?
GV: My father definitely has a great influence on my style as well as the homies Dee and Ricky. However, basically anything and anyone with an “I don’t give a f**k” attitude inspires me.
DS: How would you define your city’s fashion?
GV: Cool, but not as cool as NYC’s. The street-style in New York City is untouchable. It’s inspiration after inspiration.
DS: How would you describe your style in a word?
GV: Street-chic.
DS: Do you identify with any designers?
GV: Dee and Ricky and Theophilus London. Those dudes have such versatile brands; they’re definitely inspiring to hang out with and look up to.
DS: Is there anything in your wardrobe that you just can’t (or don’t want to) live without?
GV: A jacket by Jil Sander from Nicolas Toronto; it’s a piece that my dad and I actually share. It gives me the confidence I need when attending higher-end events.
DS: Is there something that you have your eye on to purchase at the moment?
GV: Yes. A flight to Japan.
